Lawrence "Larry" Dean Pritchard

September 15, 1931 ~ April 13, 2022 (age 90)

Born Sept. 15, 1931 entered into Rest April 13, 2022.

Lawrence Dean Pritchard was born on Sept. 15, 1931 in Akron, Ohio to Harold and Bessie Pritchard.  He joined his brothers John, and sisters Helen and Patricia.  Later the family would grow to include brothers, Chic, George and Jim.

When he was in his early teens, Larry contracted polio and spent time in the Akron Children’s hospital.  Even though he recovered he still had the effects of polio in his later years.

After graduating from South High School in 1951, Larry attended Akron University and began working for Goodyear Aerospace where he worked for 39 years.  In 1953, he was united in marriage with Nancy Sterling and together they had two daughters, Adrienne and Renee.

Larry loved to play sports—basketball, football, baseball, and golf.  He learned to enjoy sports because he said every Saturday he and his brothers would grab a basketball, football, a baseball and a bat and head out for the day. On his retirement from Goodyear Aerospace, Larry worked as a starter at Mayfair Golf Course.  Larry also enjoyed coaching and umpiring for youth sports.

In 1974, Larry married Virginia Gosche and they moved to their home in Uniontown, where Larry lived and attended Advent Lutheran Church until recently.

Larry’s survivors include his daughters Adrienne Smith of Carmel, Indiana and Renee Carpenter (Matt) of Kelseyville, CA,  as well as grandchildren: Clayton Smith of Indianapolis, Mallory Siegel (Alex) of San Luis Obispo, CA, and Evan Carpenter (Emma) of Turlock, CA, and three great granddaughters: Liv Siegel and Eloise and Florence Carpenter.  Larry is also survived by sister Patricia Jones of Tallmadge, brother George of Akron, and brother James Pritchard of Dresden as well as many nieces and nephews.

Committal service will be Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Greenlawn Cemetery in the Ivy Chapel, 2580 Romig Rd, Akron.

Sadly, our dear and beloved, Larry Pritchard, who has been a devoted member for many, many years recently passed. Larry was born on Sept. 15, 1931, and passed away on April 12 2022 at age 90.

He loved attending our meetings and when he came to a meeting, he most always had his sister, Pat Jones, with him. He was a very active member, and always walked in & out of the meeting with a big friendly smile. Though he was a bit on the quiet side, he loved conversation with his fellow polio friends as we enjoyed lunch together.
