Jim was a kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband. He gave generously of his time and resources to his family, church and local community. He was an active member of the Wooster United Methodist Church. Prior to his retirement in 1988, he spent most of his career in banking for the Central Trust Company, City Loan & Savings Company and Citizens national Bank. He loved animals so it was only natural for him to be actively involved in the Wayne County Humane Society where he served as Treasurer, newsletter editor and served on the building committee during their expansion. Jim developed polio before his sophomore year at Hiram College and was very active in the polio survivors groups. Additionally, he was a longtime volunteer at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.

His hobby during the 80s and 90s was collecting and showing classic cars, his favorite being the Corvair. He was an active member of Friends of Corvair and the Buckeye Ramblin Rods clubs.

He is preceded in death by his best friend and wife, Linda Farmer Straub (2017), son Doug Straub (1971), son-in-law Dan Wessels (2011), former wife Millie Withrich Straub (2015) and his parents.
